I don't think so, Claudette -- I think it's saying that you can follow the trail from how you spend your time to what's really important to you. If you followed the trail of how I spend my hours, then you'd think that maybe my computer is my god. Dillard's observation bit me to the bone because it's true that we might LIKE to say we're about various things, but when I shine the light of truth on my schedule, I can see what it is I really do. Makes me think of our state motto. Esse quam videri, y'all!

        • Susan Petree I agree with the urgency and conviction Vicky sees and feels in this quote. PS: I would have added - ". . . this hour is what we are doing with our LIVES!" But, on a lighter note - dontcha' just luv livin' in a state who's motto is: "Esse quam videri, y'all" :-)

        • Michele Strub Vicky, I love your choice of voices to share with us -- also from the mind of Annie Dillard: "The answer must be, I think, that beauty and grace are performed whether or not we will or sense them. The least we can do is try to be there." -- many sighs reading A.D. ;o]

        • Vicky Azmon Hallenbeck That's a good one, Michele -- these days I feel a bit more than frayed and nibbled...unraveled and chomped on, but still moving along. I'm not sure, but I think I could make a country song out of that...
